Introduction

The
Tiger attributes have made him nature's most efficient predator. The Tiger is
closely linked with its habitat and of-course with its prey. But he also has
close ties with its co- predators and camp followers. All the inhabitants of
this closely interwoven system live in harmony with one notable exception, Modern
Man.
The Tiger is an exclusive beast who does not follow any rules. Acute sensitivity,
secretiveness, the ability to surprise, untiring perseverance, agility in attack,
the tenacity to follow and the strength to overpower are the qualities of this
animal. A set of powerful cannine teeth combined with strong jaw muscles, with
tremendous crushing power and sharp claws with a strong gripping mechanism in
the forearm completes his armoury. This formidable predator can efficiently
bring down animals as large as a buffalo.
The Indian tiger is a creature of hypnotic power and fascination. The length
of a male can go upto 11 feet (including the tail) whereas female can go upto
8 feet. Males weigh around 400-600 pounds whereas females weigh around 275-400
pounds. Their life-span is around 15 years. Cubs are raised by the mother and
stay with her for approximately two years. During this time they learn hunting
skills etc. Mothers give birth to 2-3 cubs per pregnancy and gestation period
is 95-112 days.
